Lockups, icons, and badges
Google Play’s brand elements and how to use them correctly
Contents
Lockups
There are two different layouts for the lockup:
Horizontal lockup
Use this version as much as possible.
Vertical lockup
Only use this version when there’s not enough space for the horizontal lockup.
There are multiple color versions of each lockup, to accommodate different background colors:
Full-color grey
For use on white and light backgrounds with a maximum 5% tint of black.
Full-color white
For use on black or dark backgrounds with a 6% to 99% tint of black.
Monochrome
For special cases; request permission for use when you submit assets for approval.
Always be sure to leave enough clear space around the lockup.
Horizontal lockup clear space
To determine the minimum amount of clear space, use one full height of the icon on all sides of the lockup.
Vertical lockup clear space
To determine the minimum amount of clear space, use half the height of the icon on all sides of the lockup.
Things to avoid
Don’t place lockups on photography or patterned backgrounds.
Don’t use the lockup as part of a sentence.
Don’t rearrange or reposition any elements of the lockup.
Don’t create monochrome versions or change the colors of the lockup.
Don’t use the lockup as a badge or tile element.
Partner lockups
When creating a partner lockup, be sure to scale the logos correctly:
- The maximum height of your logo must be equal to the height of the Google Play icon
- Your maximum caps/ascender height must not be greater than the cap height of the Google Play wordmark.
- In a single partnership lockup, we use a solid gray (#676867), 1pt-thick vertical line to separate the Google Play logo from the partner logo.
When creating the lockup, consider which logo should be featured first. The brand leading the creative should be featured on the left in horizontal lockups, and on top in vertical lockups.

Icon
The Google Play icon (sometimes called the “prism”) is the official app icon for the Google Play app. In marketing materials, it should only be used within the context of the Google Play lockup, or within home screen UI.
Use the icon as the app icon for the Google Play app within UI screens.
Don’t use the icon in marketing materials.
Use the Google Play prism as the app icon when featured alongside other Google brand icons.
Badges
Google Play badges can be used in marketing campaigns to promote content on Google Play. If you’re driving customers to download content on Google Play, please use Google Play badges rather than Google Play lockups.
There are two different badges you can use:
Get it on Google Play badge
Use this version to drive downloads on Google Play.
Pre-register on Google Play badge
Use this version to drive pre-registration on Google Play.
To ensure that the badge is always legible, follow these minimum size guidelines for both version of the badge:
Minimum digital size
The badge height must be a minimum of 28px.
Minimum print size
The badge height must be a minimum of 0.3 inches / 7.6mm.
When placing the Google Play badge with other application store badges, make sure the Google Play badge is the same size or larger than the other badges.
Always be sure to leave enough clear space around the badge. To determine the minimum amount of clear space, use one-quarter of the height of the badge.
Make sure to place the badge on an appropriate background. Use only solid backgrounds or simple background images that create enough contrast with the badge.
Things to avoid
Don’t use outdated badge artwork. Always download the most recent version from Partner Marketing Hub.
Don’t change the badge color.
Don’t remove or rearrange badge elements, or otherwise adjust the badge in any way.
Don’t use low-resolution badges or any badge with illegible text.
Don’t alter the scale of the wordmark or icon.
Don’t use Google Play lockups to drive users to download content. Instead, use the badge.
