Logo lockups
Primary horizontal lockup |
Our horizontal logo lockup is your go-to branding element and cornerstone of our logo family. Always use this option when the creative allows.
White horizontal lockup |
When using a dark background, we recommend using the inverted horizontal lockup to ensure visibility.
Primary vertical lockup |
Our vertical logo lockup can be used when there are space constraints, but it is not the preferred option.
White vertical lockup |
When using a dark background, we recommend using the inverted vertical lockup to ensure visibility.
Color versions
There’s only one, full-color version of the logo. We do not allow monochrome versions of the Google Maps logo.

Backgrounds
When determining which lockup to use, please follow these guidelines:
- Always use the horizontal logo lockup when possible, preferably shown on a white background. A light background using a maximum 5% tint of black is also acceptable.
- A reverse logo lockup can be used, but ONLY on dark backgrounds or imagery when there's enough contrast.
- The product lockup can be placed on a white or light background within a range of 0% - 40% black.
- The reverse product lockup (#FFFFFF) is used on dark or patterned backgrounds or imagery when there’s enough contrast. It can be placed on a dark background within a range of 40% - 100% black.

Do use the logo lockup on white backgrounds.

A reverse logo lockup can be used, but ONLY on dark backgrounds or imagery when there's enough contrast.

Use the inverse white logo on a busy background.

Don’t use the logo on colors that blend with the icon.

Don't use a product lockup on a colored or patterned background. Use only a reverse product lockup.
Incorrect usage
We love our logo, but it’s been constructed to strict standards. Here are some examples of what not to do with it.

Don't change the spacing or arrangement of the lockup or icon.

Don't add any effects like drop shadows, bevels or strokes.

Don't distort, skew, warp, rotate or change the shape of the lockup or icon in any way.

Don't add or form other words from the lockup.

Don't use the one-color Google logo in a product lockup without an icon. Use only the full-color Google logo.

Don't change the alignment of the vertical logo lockup.

Don't use a full-color Google logo when constructing a lockup with an icon.

Don't alter the lockup colors.

Don't resize the icon or any other elements in a lockup.
Wordmark
Although we would prefer partners to use our lockup, the wordmark can be used in its place. Our product lockup features a full-color Google logo and “Maps” set in Product Sans, Gray 700 (#5F6368). This version does not include an icon.

Icon
Primary icon |
There is only one version of the Google Maps icon, and it should always be used with our blue, green, yellow, and red.
Clear space
Make sure the lockups, wordmark, and icon are always legible and has enough clear space around it to not interfere with headlines, text or other visuals. The minimum clear space is one full height of the “1” on all sides.
