Legal and trademarks

Any creatives that include or refer to the YouTube trademarks must be reviewed and fully approved by Google’s brand team. In addition, the following legal requirements apply.

General information

A trademark is a word, name, symbol or device (or a combination thereof) that identifies the goods or services of a person or company and distinguishes them from the goods and services of others. A trademark assures consumers of consistent quality with respect to those goods or services and aids in their promotion.

Although Google would like to accommodate all requests to use our trademarks in third-party marketing materials, we want to make sure our brands are used in the right way. That is why our brand features (trademarks, logos, web pages, screenshots, and other distinctive features) can be used only pursuant to the guidelines on this portal, our Terms and Conditions, and for the specific purposes for which Google has given permission.

This trademark List sets out an illustrative, non-exhaustive list of trademarks owned by Google LLC.

Displaying the trademark symbol (™)

A trademark symbol (™) is required for the first or most prominent time YouTube appears in text, in each language section of the marketing creative.

The trademark symbol does not need to be repeated for additional instances of that trademark. Social media posts do not need a trademark symbol. Make sure to always use the ™ symbol, not the ® symbol.

How to include the attribution statement

Google’s brand features (product names, logos, screenshots, and other distinctive features) can only be used with our explicit permission. If you’ve been granted permission to use our trademarks in your marketing materials, you’ll need to include an attribution statement in the creative, see how.

Social media

Social media posts do not need an attribution statement. For banners and clickable creatives, the attribution statement can be included on the destination landing page.

Usage rights

When marketing YouTube TV, you may want to show the product UI or specific device screens in your marketing materials. Keep in mind though that YouTube does not own the rights to any YouTube or network content featured on our apps, unless the rights for said content has been negotiated and granted by the lawful owner. Whenever showing the YouTube TV user interface, you must obtain rights directly from all content owners shown on screen.
